The Ganges is the most sacred river to Hindus and is also a lifeline to millions of Indians who live along its course and depend on it for their daily needs. The River is Mighty, Water Flow is Fast and Furious and the River Width is Huge. On its 800 km journey, when in plains, she often changes the course of flow, irrigating lands and leaving fertile lands for farmers, but a nightmare of National oil and Gas companies who have laid pipeline on or under its bed. As the course changes, the pipelines becomes exposed endangering the environment and safety of people. It was under such conditions that Gas Authority floated the tender for installation of 24” + 6” dia pipeline under the River Ramganga at a depth of approx. 30 meters below the bed level to a length of 2200 meters. Installing a pipe of the give size and length in a remote village near Farrukabad (U.P) was a challenge in terms of its technicalities, but also in terms of logistics.
